Saxoncourt established operations in Mainland China in 2000 and, upon obtaining an operating licence from the Board of Education, was able to open the first Shane English School in Shanghai in February 2001.

Saxoncourt has a majority shareholding in Saxoncourt China, which operates the SES Shanghai centre as a Direct Teaching Establishment (DTE). Several franchise schools have also subsequently opened in Shanghai, where the Shane reputation for quality has begun to make it one of the leading forces in the huge local EFL market.  There are now also franchise schools in Hangzhou and Suzhou.

The first Shane English School in Beijing was opened in 2002 as a joint venture with the Beijing Wiseway Consulting Company. Currently there are ten Shane English Schools in China. Whether they are DTEs, franchises or joint venture schools, all follow the same philosophy, teaching methods, organisation and course structures.

Growing out of, and benefiting from, the existing and well-established structures and methodology of Shane English Schools, SES operations in China are well on the way to emulating the success, presence and high repute of our longer standing counterparts in Japan and elsewhere. This is a very exciting market for the Saxoncourt Group and we look forward to going from strength to strength.
